Microsoft Can’t Fix Its Halo: The Master Chief Collection couldn’t have been higher. McGuire, a year-old project engineer from Grand Haven, Michigan, saw it as a way to revisit his favorite game series, and rekindle a romance that started more than a decade before with Halo: McGuire is a hardcore devotee of the franchise. As a student at Michigan State University, he sold an old guitar and bought an Xbox and a copy of Halo 2 to stay competitive with his friends. They played Halo 3 for years, devouring the map packs and using the game to stay in touch after graduation. He played them all. And so he was beyond stoked to hear about The Master Chief Collection. It was to be a rabid fan’s dream come true, a one-and-done single-disc “box set” including high-definition remasters of Halo and Halo 2 and improved versions of Halo 3 and Halo 4.

Master Chief Collection has faced a lot of controversy since launch mainly due to major game breaking bugs that completely exploited the experience for those who were looking for the ultimate Halo games collection with functional multiplayer. Today, fans of Halo will be able to download a new major update for Halo: Master Chief Collection that brings the game support for 4K and HDR and includes a massive list of improvements to go along with it.
This update has been playtested by the fans and developers for a couple of weeks now and this is supposed to be the definitive Halo experience. The official patch notes can be seen from here. The visual upgrades are not the only thing that is the highlight for this update.

Another update is aimed at being released early next week which will hopefully address the unbalanced team issues. This is getting ridiculous. MCC’s multiplayer matchmaking is still a muddled mess several weeks after release is frankly unacceptable. We’ve given i a lengthy spool of rope, and they’ve been allowed a fair bit of slack from the gaming press, but this was supposed to be the flagship title of the winter. This was supposed to be the triumphant end to a year in which the Xbox One has really turned itself around, largely thanks to the efforts of Phil Spencer and his team; and what better series to deliver than Halo?
Microsoft and i got everything right, delivering an outstandingly well-priced and well-balanced collection designed to re introduce a new generation of Xbox fans to the Master Chief and his exploits.

The Master Chief Collection has released its newest update of the game and it can now be downloaded on Xbox Live. When you begin the game, it will prompt you to download the latest update. Several setbacks of the game have been reported out of which matchmaking and the incompetence for gamers to enjoy the multiplayer features of the game are the biggest ones.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently addressed these issues, promising fans on Twitter that the Industries team are working very hard to mend the unbearable multiplayer waiting time. Gamers expected that this new update will resolve the matchmaking performance problems, UI problems and several other issues which the users have been encountering ever since last week when the game released. Message boards such a Twitter, Reditt are filled with criticism charged at Industries for not being able to fix these issues even after the updates.

The Master Chief Collection is coming up on its fourth anniversary following its launch in November , and believe it or not, the Xbox One game continues to get exciting new updates. In the latest Halo Community Update , developer shared an image of what the Match Composer looks like. As you can see, this lets you select the game s you want to play, as well as the modes within those.
After that, the magic of the Match Composer places you into matches. Note that the new Match Composer will only ever place you into Social matches, not Ranked ones. The other big new feature for Halo: MCC is expanded controller customisation options. With a new update, players will be able to independently changed the horizontal and vertical look sensitivity, as well as look acceleration and look dead zone.
In other news, said it will bring back the zombie-themed Infection mode next week to kick off the Halloween celebrations a little early. The Master Chief Collection is about to get some major updates that will drastically rework code and improve functionality, courtesy of a small team within Industries dedicated solely to supporting old Halo games. Normally this would be good – if somewhat expected – news. What makes this particular turn of events notable is that it’s currently February , more than three years on from Halo: MCC’s original release date of November 11, It’s not like this hasn’t been coming for awhile, either.
MCC was famously lambasted for unreliable matchmaking, sluggish performance, and general clunky bugginess. So what’s on the docket for the future? API stands for Application Programming Interface – essentially it’s a suite of tools and code for handling programming requests, ie. So in the case of MCC’s matchmaking, this means an update to how the game connects to other copies of the game and Xbox Live.
Xbox Matchmaking services would find you a match but the notification might get lost on the way to the system and then the game title itself would never see it. Under the old model the system software was the authority on who was connected to who and how This gives the title and us a lot more control over party management. With this update, the game will handle those processes, thus putting more control into ‘s hands and strengthening connections.

The development director on the Halo franchise posted the long overdue explanation on the Halo subreddit overnight. I was traveling this week and out of the office while the livestream was happening, but if you remember, a couple of years ago I promised to explain what the underlying issues with MCC were. Well here it is, sort of. We will, however, have kind of a second half of this post when the update is released, where we can go through the causes of items that were fixed by the new update, rather than jinx them right now.
So to be super clear, these fixes will apply to both regular Xbox One version and the Xbox One X enhancements. From a personal perspective, the MCC launch was one of my lowest ebbs, professionally.
